Kolkheti National Park was established in 1999 on the eastern shore of the Black Sea, protecting a rare mosaic of ancient Colchic forests, vast marshlands, river valleys and the Paliastomi Lake basin.
Under the Ramsar Convention since 1997, the park safeguards critical habitats for hundreds of migratory, aquatic and forest-dwelling species. It spans Samegrelo and Guria — two of Georgia's most storied historic regions.
